A woman in Umaria district has found success in the garment industry thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, becoming a symbol of self-reliance in rural Madhya Pradesh. Pooja Singh, from Ghanghari village, utilized an Rs 8 lakh loan under the scheme to establish her garment manufacturing unit, “Hira Fabric.” Her business now produces various garments, from school uniforms to T-shirts, meeting high demand in districts like Hoshangabad and Satna.
Pooja Singh’s journey showcases how access to institutional credit can change lives, as her business not only improved her family’s finances but also created local job opportunities. With eight employees currently, her enterprise is contributing to grassroots employment. The success of her business is attributed to the support received under the Mudra Yojana, as highlighted by her husband, Dharmendra Singh.
The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, initiated in 2015, aims to offer collateral-free loans to small entrepreneurs, with a focus on women and youth, to encourage self-employment. Categorized into Shishu, Kishore, and Tarun, the scheme has been instrumental in fostering entrepreneurship in rural and semi-urban areas of Madhya Pradesh, leading to increased income generation and economic activity.
