A 26-year-old woman named Shivani, who was believed to have been murdered by the Jalgaon police in Maharashtra, was discovered alive in Madhya Pradesh, leading to doubts about the investigation. The missing complaints of Shivani and another individual named Arun were filed by their families at the Khaknar police station on different dates in May.
In a surprising turn of events, a headless and partially burnt body of an unidentified young woman, resembling Shivani’s age, was located in an area under Jalgaon police’s jurisdiction. Initially, the police mistakenly identified the body as Shivani’s, resulting in the arrest of her father and brother on murder charges.
However, a subsequent probe revealed that Shivani and Arun were together, casting doubt on the initial assumptions. Shivani herself appeared before the Burhanpur police, asserting her family’s innocence and requesting their release. The situation was described as contradictory by the Superintendent of Police, highlighting the discrepancies in the case.
The incident has sparked concerns about the police’s operational procedures, as they failed to conduct a DNA test on the recovered body before making the identification and arrests. The authorities have now handed Shivani over to the Jalgaon police for further investigation, emphasizing the need for a thorough review of the case.
