Several women attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting in Medinipur district expressed disappointment over opposition parties for not supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill, leading to its defeat. PM Modi, addressing the nation, accused Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, and DMK of obstructing the bill. One woman highlighted the failure to pass the bill as equivalent to “foeticide,” criticizing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not backing women’s causes.

Another attendee questioned why opposition parties blocked the bill instead of supporting women’s progress, echoing PM Modi’s stance. A woman, whose son is missing, criticized the state police for their inaction and labeled Congress and Trinamool as “anti-women” for neglecting women’s safety. She emphasized the prevalence of crimes against women in the state, contrasting with the parties’ rhetoric.
