Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi commended women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Tripura for their role in advancing the ‘Viksit Bharat’ vision by 2047. With over 10 crore women nationwide engaged in SHGs, Tripura boasts 54,000 such groups involving 5.40 lakh women, including 1.30 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’ whose annual household income exceeds Rs 1 lakh.
Annapurna Devi urged SHG women to combat child marriage and actively engage in social initiatives. Emphasizing the pivotal role of women-led SHGs in Tripura’s rural economy under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), she praised their dedication and self-reliance. The Minister highlighted the state government’s efforts to realize Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
During her visit, the Minister interacted with SHG members and visited stalls exhibiting their products. She also reviewed various schemes of Tripura’s Social Welfare and Social Education Department, lauding the state’s effective implementation of Central welfare programs. An officer has been appointed in each Gram Panchayat to oversee child marriage issues, aligning with the vision of a Child Marriage-Free India.
