Hundreds of women, led by state BJP working President Ashwani Sharma, marched towards Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s residence in Punjab to seek clarification from the Aam Aadmi Party for opposing the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a bill proposing 33% reservation for women in Parliament. The Chandigarh Police detained several leaders, including Parneet Kaur, Jai Inder Kaur, Mohinder Kaur Josh, Mona Jaiswal, Meenu Sethi, Vandana Sangwan, Renu Thappar, and Ekta Nagpal, as they tried to approach the Chief Minister’s residence.
Raising slogans of “Nari Shakti Zindabad,” the women expressed their determination to fight for equal rights and urged the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill. BJP’s Ashwani Sharma emphasized the party’s commitment to women’s empowerment, criticizing the Congress and AAP for opposing women’s reservation, labeling it as political opportunism that hinders necessary structural reforms.
Mahila Morcha President Jai Inder Kaur denounced the blocking of the Women’s Reservation Bill as a setback for democracy, accusing the Congress and AAP of treating women as a mere vote bank. She highlighted the growing political empowerment of women and called for a strong response against the parties’ actions. Parneet Kaur criticized the Opposition for obstructing the bill’s passage, urging all political parties to prioritize the welfare of women over personal interests.
