Following a fiercely competitive IPL season, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia praised Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for their victory, highlighting the close competition that kept the tournament exciting until the end. RCB, led by Virat Kohli’s rapid half-century, secured their second consecutive IPL title by successfully chasing 156 runs and defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium. This victory makes RCB the third franchise, after Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, to retain the IPL title, solidifying their status as one of the most successful teams in the league.
Saikia commended RCB and all participating teams for their contributions to a thrilling and competitive season, emphasizing the emergence of young talents in Indian cricket. He expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the season, noting the enjoyment it brought to fans. Despite entering as defending champions, RCB faced tough competition on their path to the playoffs, with all franchises fiercely contending for victory. Saikia believes that the intense competition witnessed in the league is a significant positive for Indian cricket, making the season more engaging and unpredictable.
Virat Kohli’s exceptional performance, including a quick fifty and an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls, guided RCB to victory, supported by Venkatesh Iyer’s valuable contribution of 32 runs. Kohli’s impressive innings, marked by nine fours and three sixes, ensured RCB maintained control of the chase, ultimately securing consecutive IPL titles.
