World Skate revealed the Olympic qualification system guidelines for Skateboarding Park and Skateboarding Street at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The qualification process comprises two phases. The first phase, the World Skateboarding Tour (WST), will take place from June 11, 2026, to March 31, 2028, acting as the primary gateway to Phase 2.
In Phase 1, each national team can enlist up to three athletes per WST event. Additionally, up to six more athletes per country can secure entry by ranking in the top 30 of the World Skateboarding Ranking 60 days before the event commences, as stated by World Skate. Phase 2 is scheduled from April 1, 2028, to June 11, 2028, and involves a distinct contest series for the top 44 athletes in each discipline and gender, determined by World Skate.
The 176 athletes selected will receive a Phase 2 points baseline at the beginning, based on their qualification position within the top 44 athletes in their discipline advancing to Phase 2. World Skate also outlined that each team can have a maximum of three qualified athletes. The Games will see at least one athlete from the host nation (if not already qualified through ranking) and one athlete per continent earning qualification. Moreover, there is provision for eligible athletes from underrepresented regions to qualify through the Universality Quota.
As preparations for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games progress, LA28 introduced the official Look of the Games, focusing on the theme of “LA in full bloom.” This visual identity draws inspiration from the California Superbloom, a rare natural occurrence where dormant wildflower seeds bloom across California’s landscapes in vibrant colors, happening approximately once every decade in the region’s unique climate.
