X Corp, led by Elon Musk, stated its ongoing efforts to combat illegal content, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), on its social media platform. The company emphasized its collaboration with local authorities and law enforcement agencies to address such issues effectively. X Safety assured the removal of illegal content, permanent suspension of accounts, and cooperation with relevant authorities when necessary.
The company highlighted its commitment to enforcing stringent policies by directing users to its help pages for a comprehensive understanding of its rules and enforcement measures. In response to Musk’s warning regarding consequences for those involved in illegal content creation using Grok, X Safety reiterated its stance on taking strict actions against such violations. X Corp faced scrutiny from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) for its failure to curb the spread of inappropriate content on its platform.
MeitY issued a directive to X Corp, mandating the submission of an action taken report within 72 hours to ensure compliance in preventing the dissemination of obscene and indecent content through its services like ‘Grok’ and xAl. The ministry warned of severe legal repercussions, including potential penalties under various laws, for non-compliance with the directive. X Corp was instructed to conduct a thorough review of Grok’s technical and governance frameworks to prevent the creation of unlawful content and enforce strict user policies.
Failure to adhere to the regulatory requirements could result in the loss of safe harbor protection under Section 79 of the IT Act and trigger legal actions under multiple statutes, such as the BNS, the Indecent Representation of Women Act, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
