X, owned by Elon Musk, has announced significant changes to its creator revenue-sharing program to address the spread of AI-generated content, particularly during conflict situations. The platform, amidst concerns of misinformation during the US, Israel, and Iran tensions, aims to ensure the availability of authentic information. Nikita Bier, X’s Product Head, emphasized the need for revising the Creator Revenue Sharing policies to safeguard against misleading content, especially in times of war.
The rapid evolution of AI tools has made it increasingly simple to produce deceptive videos, prompting X to take action. Bier highlighted a case in Pakistan where 31 accounts were found posting AI war videos, leading to immediate measures by the platform. X is now quicker in detecting such content and is actively discouraging such practices to maintain authenticity.
Under the updated guidelines, users sharing AI-generated videos of armed conflicts without clear disclosure face a 90-day suspension from the revenue-sharing program. Repeat offenders risk permanent suspension, with the platform leveraging Community Notes and metadata to identify such posts. X has also introduced a “Made with AI” label on posts containing AI-generated elements to enhance transparency and combat manipulation.
The recent policy adjustments by X coincide with heightened global tensions following US and Israel’s actions against Iran, including the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Both Elon Musk and Bier noted a surge in traffic on X, indicating increased user engagement during these turbulent times.
