The Yoga Federation of India, a longstanding organization promoting competitive Yogasana, plans to seek fresh recognition from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and restore its affiliation with the Indian Olympic Association. This decision follows a Delhi High Court ruling that set aside Yogasana Bharat’s status as the National Sports Federation for Yogasana. The Federation views this judgment as a significant step towards transparent and fair sports administration in India.
Established in 1974, the Yoga Federation of India has been actively promoting competitive Yogasana for over five decades. It has organized various championships, set technical standards, trained officials and athletes, and worked towards national and international recognition for Yogasana as a competitive sport. In compliance with the court’s directive, the Federation will apply for fresh recognition and work on reinstating its affiliation with the Indian Olympic Association.
Dr. Anirudh Gupta, President of the Yoga Federation of India, emphasized the importance of transparency and good governance in shaping the future of Yogasana. The Federation is committed to participating in the recognition process and restoring its ties with the Indian Olympic Association. It remains dedicated to developing athletes and preparing for the upcoming 11th Asian Yoga Championship in 2027.
As preparations for the championship progress, the Federation underscores its commitment to athlete development and the growth of Yogasana internationally. It stresses the need for transparent governance, athlete-centric policies, and adherence to the rule of law in guiding the future of Indian Yogasana. The Federation believes that the court-mandated recognition process will enhance the credibility of Yogasana administration and provide a stable platform for Indian athletes to excel in the long term.
