A youth from Jammu’s Makwal village near the International Border has been arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) after being lured into a honeytrap. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Jammu, Joginder Singh, highlighted the efforts of Pakistan’s Army, ISI, and associated networks to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir. Singh mentioned that these entities use social media and other means to influence and radicalize youths, emphasizing that national boundaries hold little significance in the realm of social media.
Security agencies are actively monitoring such activities to identify and counsel influenced youths. Singh mentioned ongoing investigations to uncover other individuals involved in the network. In a separate incident, Punjab Police arrested a man from Pathankot for spying for Pakistan-based handlers, revealing a trans-border espionage module directed by a handler in Dubai. The arrested individual, Baljit Singh, confessed to installing a CCTV camera to monitor army and paramilitary movements, transmitting live feeds to handlers in Pakistan.
