The Youth Congress in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, staged a protest against a proposed trade agreement, citing potential harm to farmers and laborers. Led by National President Uday Bhanu Chib, party members marched towards the Collectorate for a demonstration. Police set up barricades to block the rally’s progress, resulting in a tense confrontation near Ghantaghar where water cannons were used to disperse the crowd.
Chib, addressing the gathering, expressed concerns that the trade deal with the United States could negatively impact farmers and laborers, going against national interests. The Youth Congress vowed to escalate protests nationwide, beyond Madhya Pradesh. Protesters also highlighted worries about inflation, rising LPG cylinder prices, and criticized the government’s foreign policy stance.
During the demonstration, MLA Lakhan Ghanghoria and numerous Youth Congress members joined the protest. Following the event, police detained over 100 protesters, including Chib and state Youth Congress leaders, to restore order. Subsequently, a significant police presence was maintained in the area with barricades around the Collectorate and key routes to ensure law and order.
