Former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of the YSR Congress Party criticized the negligence of Andhra Pradesh’s government, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, for the tragic deaths of six fishermen. He demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore for each affected family. The incident occurred when a boat carrying seven fishermen capsized near Gangavaram Port, with only one survivor rescued by a Chinese boat.
Jagan Mohan Reddy highlighted the lack of response from officials despite distress calls from the affected families. He emphasized that timely action could have saved the lives of the other fishermen. The former CM held the government accountable for the tragedy and urged it to provide the promised compensation. He also pledged that the YSR Congress would fulfill the compensation if the current government failed to do so.
The YSR Congress leader criticized the government’s inaction, pointing out that despite available resources like the Coast Guard and Naval Command headquarters in the city, the response was inadequate. He expressed disappointment that neither the Chief Minister nor Cabinet ministers visited the affected families. Instead, the government offered Rs 10 lakh compensation per family, which Jagan deemed insufficient.
YSRCP Visakhapatnam district president, K.K. Raju, announced financial aid of Rs 7 lakh each for the families of the deceased fishermen and the lone survivor. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party has taken steps to support the affected families in the wake of the tragic incident.
