Nomvelo Sibanda will lead Zimbabwe Cricket’s new-look women’s squad on their white-ball tour of Pakistan. The 15-player squad includes 10 new faces, with the team set to play six matches at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, marking Zimbabwe Women’s first-ever visit to Pakistan. The tour comprises ODI matches on May 3, 6, and 9, followed by T20I games on May 12, 14, and 15.
Nombelo takes over the captaincy from Mary-Anne Musonda, who recently retired, with support from experienced all-rounder Precious Marange. Promising all-rounder Kelis Ndhlovu, who recovered from a concussion, retains her spot alongside emerging talents Beloved Biza and Adel Zimunu. The changes in the squad are part of Zimbabwe’s transition into Future Tours Programme (FTP) cricket, aiming to expose young talent to international competition.
Zimbabwe’s technical director, Steve Mangongo, emphasized the deliberate changes, stating the importance of broadening the player base and preparing for FTP cricket. Due to the new strategy, the team will miss experienced players like Josephine Nkomo, Nyasha Gwanzura, and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano due to injury or personal commitments. Notably, several players from the previous New Zealand tour have not been selected for the Pakistan trip.
Zimbabwe women’s team will embark on their first white-ball series tour to Pakistan, with preparations including a training camp in Karachi before the matches commence.
