A recent social media post by Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu has stirred discussions on Tamil Nadu politics, language, and religion. Vembu’s post highlighted the significance of language and cultural nuances in the state, particularly in response to criticism from former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin.
The post emphasized the cultural importance of Tamil words like “Dharmam,” “Dharumam,” and “Aram” in contrast to the Sanskrit-derived term “Sanatanam.” It pointed out the differing connotations of these terms in Tamil society and their association with moral and religious values.
Vembu suggested that the use of “Sanatanam” by Udhayanidhi Stalin, though initially unfamiliar to many, has inadvertently popularized the term and fueled perceptions of the DMK’s stance on Hindu beliefs.
