Second seed Alexander Zverev secured a spot in the Wimbledon fourth round by defeating Marcos Giron in straight sets, with scores of 6-2, 7-6(4), 6-4. Zverev, who recently won his first Grand Slam at the French Open, displayed confidence despite grass not being his preferred surface.
In the match, Zverev dominated the first set through strong serving, while Giron fought back in the second set, leading to a tie-break. Zverev remained composed, saved break points, and eventually took a two-set lead.
Moving into the third set, Zverev broke early, but Giron managed to break back. However, Zverev quickly regained the lead and closed out the match after two hours and 34 minutes. Zverev praised Giron’s grass-court skills and expressed satisfaction with his straight-sets victory.
Zverev’s exceptional serving performance included 17 aces and winning 77 percent of his first-serve points. With this win, Zverev became the third German man in the Open Era to reach the Wimbledon Round of 16 at least four times, joining legends Boris Becker and Michael Stich.
Zverev is now just one win away from reaching his first Wimbledon quarter-final. His next challenge will be against 13th seed Jiri Lehecka, who also advanced to the fourth round with a victory on Saturday.
