A Chaotic Life Transformed by a Baby

Gaurav “GG” Gehlot, a carefree Jaat from Gurgaon, is the last person you’d expect to pursue parenthood. His life is shaped around late-night drinking, impulsive decisions, family dependence, and the comfort of never truly taking responsibility for anything.

But everything changes the moment he discovers a baby—Amul—in the backseat of his car.

What begins as a moment of confusion soon becomes an emotional awakening. GG decides to adopt the baby, sending his entire family into an uproar. What follows is a heartfelt yet hilarious journey of a man who is forced to confront adulthood—one diaper, one sleepless night, and one emotional revelation at a time.

Performances – Each Actor Leaves a Mark

Kunal Kemmu – The Beating Heart of the Show

Kunal Kemmu is extraordinary.
With a perfect blend of innocence, humour, vulnerability, and emotional range, he transforms GG into a character you root for at every step. His ability to elevate comedic scenes while delivering heartfelt moments makes the show shine.

Prajakta Koli – The Sister Everyone Needs

Prajakta brings warmth, sensitivity and nuance. Her relationship with GG is beautifully written—part supportive sister, part reluctant accomplice, part strong emotional anchor.

Neha Dhupia – Calmness with Emotional Weight

As Romila Nehra, Neha Dhupia delivers one of her most grounded performances. Her no-nonsense demeanour adds realism, making her character an essential emotional stabiliser.

Manoj Pahwa & Ayesha Raza – The Loud, Loving Parents

Both actors bring their A-game. They embody the essence of a chaotic, dramatic, affectionate desi family. Their comical superstitions and emotional meltdowns add flavour and authenticity.

Dayanand Shetty – The Surprise Package

Against his popular tough-guy image, Shetty steals scenes with his unexpected comedy and soft-hearted portrayal as Manny, the male nanny.

Isha Talwar, Ankur Rathee, and supporting cast

Even in smaller roles, each actor contributes richly, shaping the environment and giving depth to emotional subplots, especially around marriage pressures and modern family dynamics.

Direction, Writing & Cinematography – A Multi-Layered Triumph

Direction

With four directors—Hitesh Kewalya, Shashank Khaitan, Ishita Moitra, and Neeraj Udhwani—the show maintains a consistent tone of humour blended with heartfelt honesty.
It never becomes melodramatic, yet never loses emotional weight.

Writing

The writing is warm, sharp, and sensitive. It blends:

  • situational comedy
  • emotional realism
  • cultural nuance
  • generational conflict
  • modern-day adoption issues

The dialogues feel natural, and the humour arises from everyday moments rather than forced comedy.

Cinematography

Bright, cosy, and visually comforting—the visuals reflect GG’s chaotic, colourful world.
The camera captures emotional beats with intimacy, especially in scenes with the baby.

Music

Aman Pant’s soundtrack, especially the energetic “GG Ki Ghaintness,” perfectly balances emotional scenes with witty moments.

Themes – Growing Up, Healing & Redefining Family

Modern Fatherhood

The show explores how fatherhood isn’t just about responsibility—it’s about emotional growth and choosing unconditional love.

Single Parenting & Adoption

It sheds light on adoption challenges in India while breaking stereotypes around who is “fit” to be a parent.

Family Dynamics

The Shamsuddin-style chaos in GG’s home reflects real families—messy, funny, dramatic, yet full of love.

Man-Child to Responsible Adult

GG’s transformation mirrors the struggles of many young adults scared of stepping into adulthood.

Love Beyond Blood

The central message: families are built through love, not DNA.Strengths & Shortcomings

Strengths

1. Kunal Kemmu’s Heartfelt, Standout Performance

Kemmu brings effortless charm, spot-on comic timing, and surprising emotional depth. His portrayal of GG beautifully captures the transition from carefree immaturity to responsible fatherhood.

2. Warm, Engaging Ensemble Cast

Every supporting actor gets a moment to shine—Prajakta Koli’s grounded warmth, Manoj Pahwa and Ayesha Raza’s hilarious yet relatable parenting quirks, Neha Dhupia’s composed gravitas, and Dayanand Shetty’s unexpectedly quirky nanny act add richness to the storytelling.

3. Feel-Good, Binge-Worthy Vibe

With breezy pacing, short episodes, and a cosy atmosphere, the series is easy to binge and perfect for a comfort watch.

4. Refreshing Take on Single Fatherhood

The show brings a modern, desi spin to the single-parent narrative, exploring adoption, social judgment, and male vulnerability with sincerity and lightness.

5. Balanced Humor & Heart

From diaper disasters to emotional breakthroughs, the series skillfully mixes comedy and warmth without becoming melodramatic.

Shortcomings

1. Oversimplified Emotional Arcs

Some conflicts resolve too quickly, and deeper psychological layers—especially around adoption and divorce—are touched upon but not fully explored.

2. Predictable Story Beats

The plot follows familiar tropes, making a few emotional and comedic moments feel safe rather than surprising.

3. Uneven Tonal Shifts

At times, the show jumps between slapstick comedy and serious emotions without fully smoothing the transitions.

4. Limited Exploration of Supporting Characters

While the cast is strong, certain characters—especially Aparna and Nammo—could have benefitted from more detailed backstories and screen time.

Final Verdict – 4.5/5

Single Papa Season 1 is a feel-good, emotionally rich dramedy that beautifully captures the chaos, comedy and deep heart of becoming a parent.

Kunal Kemmu delivers a career-best performance, supported by a talented ensemble that creates a world both comforting and relatable.

A must-watch for fans of warm, slice-of-life storytelling with a contemporary twist.

Is Single Papa Season 1 suitable for family viewing?

Yes! It’s a clean, heartwarming show perfect for family audiences, teens, and adults.

Is the series emotional or more comedic?

It’s a balanced mix—funny, sweet, and lightly emotional without heavy drama.

How many episodes are in Season 1?

The series has 6 breezy, binge-worthy episodes.

Is this based on a true story?

No, but the themes of modern fatherhood and adoption are treated with realism.
