A 5.6-magnitude earthquake hit Japan’s Yamanashi prefecture, causing minor injuries to 10 people. The quake, striking at 10:29 p.m. local time on Friday, reached lower 6 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale in Fujikawaguchiko Town and Upper 5 in Otsuki City.
Yamanashi, known for Mt. Fuji, experienced the intense shaking last seen in 1924. Despite concerns about volcanic activity, experts reassured that the quake near tectonic plate boundaries is unlikely to trigger Mt. Fuji’s eruption. The earthquake also affected Kanagawa, Shizuoka, and Tokyo, with no tsunami warning issued.
Earlier, a 5.8-magnitude quake hit Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo, followed by a 4.1-magnitude tremor in Ibaraki Prefecture. In a separate incident, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan, causing injuries and intense shaking in Aomori and Iwate prefectures.
