Reacting to a joint appeal by 117 eminent personalities from India and Pakistan urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to revive bilateral dialogue and restore diplomatic engagement, the BJP reiterated that India’s stand remains unchanged that peace and terrorism cannot coexist.
BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma welcomed such initiatives but emphasized the importance of conveying the same message to Pakistan. He stated that India is open to good relations with its neighbors as long as there is no cross-border terrorism or infiltration.
Bihar Minister Dilip Jaiswal highlighted India’s commitment to peace and harmony, emphasizing the country’s role as a messenger of peace globally. He stressed the importance of peace for sustainable progress and coexistence.
BJP leader Narayan Dutt Tripathi acknowledged the importance of dialogue with Pakistan but raised concerns about Islamabad’s credibility in honoring commitments. He referenced former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s efforts to improve ties with Pakistan as a precedent.
BJP leader Vijay Sampla recognized the merit of the appeal for dialogue but emphasized the need for an environment free from terrorism for meaningful discussions. He reiterated India’s stance that peace and terrorism cannot coexist.
BJP National Spokesperson Guru Prakash assured that the government remains vigilant about diplomatic developments while safeguarding national interests. He emphasized the government’s commitment to moving forward while upholding the country’s respect, dignity, and sovereignty.
The reactions followed a joint appeal by 117 prominent personalities from India and Pakistan urging sustained steps towards restoring peace, dialogue, and normal bilateral relations. The appeal, signed by 61 Indians and 56 Pakistanis, aimed to end prolonged hostility for the betterment of young people’s opportunities and secure future.
