The death of 12 individuals due to consuming adulterated alcohol in Pune’s Hadapsar and Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Dapodi-Phugewadi areas has been termed “extremely unfortunate” by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar. She has assured that those accountable for the tragedy will face consequences. Pawar has instructed a comprehensive investigation into the incident to uncover the root cause.
In response to the incident, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has engaged with Police Commissioners of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, State Excise Department officials, and local authorities. She has emphasized the need for a thorough probe to identify all individuals involved in the illegal activities and to take strict actions against them. Currently, a joint investigation by the Police and Excise Department is ongoing to trace the origin of the illicit liquor supply.
Eight individuals have been apprehended in connection with the case so far. Deputy CM Sunetra Pawar has stressed the importance of holding all accomplices accountable. NCP-SP MLA Rohit Pawar, accompanied by party members, took forceful action against an illegal liquor unit in Hadapsar, demanding severe repercussions for those responsible for the tragic deaths.
Rohit Pawar, expressing solidarity with the victims’ families, led the destruction of the illegal establishment. He and his supporters proceeded to dismantle other liquor sale points in the vicinity. The incident has sparked political tensions in the state, with Rohit Pawar criticizing the police’s handling of the investigation and alleging a cover-up to protect the main culprits.
