Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old opener for Rajasthan Royals, achieved a remarkable feat in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by hitting 61 sixes, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record of 59 sixes in a single T20 tournament. Gayle’s record had stood for 14 years before Sooryavanshi’s outstanding performance. The young cricketer also became the first teenager to score 600 runs in a T20 tournament before turning 20.
Sooryavanshi’s exceptional season in the IPL has seen him break multiple records, including leading the list for most runs scored by a teenager in a T20 tournament. With a total of 600 runs in just 15 matches, he surpassed the previous record held by Devdutt Padikkal. Tilak Varma from Mumbai Indians follows Sooryavanshi on the all-time list with 397 runs in IPL 2022.
Not only has Sooryavanshi outperformed established stars who made early impacts as teenagers, but he has also set a new record for the most runs by a teenager in a single IPL season. Previously, Tilak Varma held this record with 397 runs in the 2022 IPL season. The young cricketer’s achievements have placed him ahead of notable players like Rishabh Pant, Prithvi Shaw, and others.
In the recent IPL Eliminator match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss and chose to bowl. Sunrisers Hyderabad made a change in their XI, bringing in Praful Hinge for Salil Arora, while Rajasthan Royals also adjusted their lineup with Ravindra Jadeja replacing Shubham Dubey.
