A 17-year-old boy lost his life in Malda, West Bengal, when an angry mob attacked him following a clash between two groups. The clash, which occurred on Holi, involved the boy, Sameer Gupta, son of a ration dealer, firing a licensed weapon belonging to his father, injuring four villagers, including a 10-year-old. The injured were promptly taken to Malda Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Tension escalated as locals protested the firing incident, leading to a violent mob targeting Sameer Gupta’s house, causing extensive damage. Tragically, the minor involved in the clash was severely beaten by the mob and succumbed to injuries while being transported to the hospital.
Upon receiving reports, a significant police presence from Manikchak police station intervened to control the situation. An investigation has been initiated to probe the entire sequence of events. A senior officer from Malda district police confirmed the incident, stating that four individuals were injured in the firing, leading to the mob’s retaliation against the perpetrator and his family. No arrests have been made yet, but investigations are ongoing, with a separate complaint lodged regarding the firing incident.
