At least 18 individuals lost their lives, and numerous others sustained injuries in southern Lebanon amidst the ongoing conflict with Israel. The deadliest incident occurred in Tayr Debba, within the Tyre District, where nine people were killed and seven were wounded, as reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency. Hezbollah disclosed that it had targeted Israeli troops and vehicles in Qantara and Bayada in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military confirmed striking Hezbollah infrastructure sites and eliminating Hezbollah militants in Tyre and other regions of southern Lebanon over the past day. Additionally, Israel intercepted a drone launched by Hezbollah towards its soldiers in southern Lebanon. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized the pursuit of negotiations as the optimal approach to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty, denouncing foreign interference and advocating for an end to Israeli assaults and troop presence.
In a video message to the Lebanese populace, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urged unity against Hezbollah, boasting of Israel’s elimination of nearly 10,000 Hezbollah militants. The recent escalations follow a brief Israel-Iran confrontation triggered by Israeli airstrikes in Beirut. Despite a ceasefire in mid-April, Israel has continued its strikes in Lebanon, targeting Hezbollah positions, while Hezbollah has retaliated against Israeli military installations. Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Centre reported that Israeli attacks since March 2 have resulted in 3,696 fatalities and 11,413 injuries in Lebanon.
