An 18-year-old girl, who was allegedly gang-raped by her employer’s son and driver in Pakistan’s Punjab province, passed away during a medical procedure at a government hospital due to complications related to abortion. The victim, a domestic worker, had been sexually abused multiple times by the suspects, as revealed in her statement and the FIR filed. The incident came to light after the girl’s death from abortion-related issues, with the police charging the employer’s son and driver with gang rape.
The girl was initially taken to a clinic for abortion complications, where doctors discovered a four to five-month fetal death during an illegal abortion procedure. Following this, she was sent home to rest but her condition deteriorated, leading to her admission to a hospital in Lahore. The police registered a case based on her statements, naming the suspects and her employer, with murder charges added after her death during surgery. While the driver was arrested, the others were granted bail in the case.
In a separate incident earlier reported by Dawn, four men allegedly gang-raped a married woman in a van in Pakistan’s Punjab province. The victim’s mother filed a complaint stating that her daughter was assaulted after boarding a van in Rawat Bazaar. The accused, including the conductor and driver, forcibly took the victim to a secluded area where they assaulted her before dropping her off. The victim was threatened and filmed by the perpetrators during the ordeal.
