Around 2.89 crore voters’ names were deleted from the draft electoral roll in Uttar Pradesh during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. This action has prompted criticism from the main opposition party, the Samajwadi Party. UP Cabinet Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar targeted the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party over this issue.
Rajbhar, addressing reporters, mentioned that a significant number of voters, approximately 86 lakh, have been marked as deceased across the state. He questioned the retention of their names on the voters’ list and implied that only Akhilesh Yadav could rectify this situation. Additionally, he highlighted that about 2.23 lakh voters had relocated from villages to cities, resulting in their names being listed in both locations.
Praising the Viksit Bharat-G RAM G scheme, Rajbhar emphasized its reformative nature. The scheme, formerly known as MGNREGA, aims to align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. Rajbhar explained that the scheme focuses on enhancing rural employment through technology-driven transparency, increased accountability, and sustainable resources. The Act now guarantees 185 days of work, with specific provisions for farming households.
Rajbhar further outlined the division of employment into four sectors under the scheme: water security, rural infrastructure, livelihood assets, and climate protection. He assured that farmers’ interests are safeguarded, and individuals are entitled to an unemployment allowance if employment is not provided within 15 days of application submission.
