Around 20 individuals from the Naga and Kuki communities in Manipur’s hill districts are still missing after reportedly being abducted by armed groups. Despite extensive search efforts by central and state security forces over nearly four weeks, their whereabouts remain unknown. Security operations have been conducted in various villages to address the situation and ensure the safety of residents.
Joint search operations were carried out in areas near the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway to prevent any escalation of violence. Security personnel located and dismantled illegal bunkers in the region while seeking support from village authorities and civil society organizations. Efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the missing individuals, comprising 6 Nagas and 14 Kuki community members.
The safety and well-being of local residents in Kangpokpi, Senapati, and neighboring districts are being prioritized through continued security measures. Various organizations representing the Naga and Kuki communities have been advocating for the safe return of the abducted individuals. The incidents stem from violent events on May 13, prompting demands for swift action and resolution.
Amid the ongoing developments, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has involved the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in investigating the abduction and killings that occurred in Kangpokpi district. Additionally, security forces have made arrests in separate operations, targeting individuals associated with militant groups in the region. Recoveries of arms and explosives have also been reported along the India-Myanmar border areas.
