A 20-year-old Indian student, Shivank Avasthi, was fatally shot near the University of Toronto’s Scarborough campus. Toronto Police reported that Avasthi, pursuing doctoral studies in Canada, was found with a gunshot injury, becoming the city’s 41st homicide case of the year. The incident led to a manhunt by Canadian Police and an appeal to the public for information.

The victim was discovered with a gunshot wound after police responded to a call for an unknown trouble in the Highland Creek Trail and Old Kingston Road area. The Toronto Police confirmed the victim’s death on the scene and mentioned that the suspect(s) had fled before their arrival. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact the police or provide tips anonymously.

The killing of Shivank Avasthi has deeply impacted the Indian community in Canada. The Consulate General of India in Toronto expressed profound sorrow over his death and assured full support to his family during this difficult time. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of international students and residents in Toronto, especially following another recent case involving the murder of an Indian national.
