A tragic incident occurred near Avadi when a mini-bus carrying pilgrims overturned after hitting the central median, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old woman and injuries to over ten others. The passengers, residents of Kandamangalam village, were en route to the Siruvapuri Murugan Temple when the accident happened on the Chennai–Tiruvallur High Road. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep while driving.
The bus, driven by Mohan, veered off course, collided with a bridge structure on the central median, and then flipped into a roadside ditch, trapping passengers inside the wrecked vehicle. Among the injured, one passenger named Revakka succumbed to severe injuries at the scene, while others suffered fractures and head trauma. Emergency services were promptly notified, and the injured were swiftly transported to Tiruvallur Government Hospital for medical care.
Following the accident, authorities from the Avadi police station and the Traffic Investigation Wing arrived at the scene to lead rescue efforts in collaboration with local residents. An investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the tragic incident, which is part of a concerning trend of road accidents in Tamil Nadu in recent times. Reports indicate that overspeeding and driver fatigue are significant factors contributing to such accidents, especially during late-night and early-morning hours.
