A 4.5 magnitude earthquake in the Bay of Bengal caused tremors in parts of Visakhapatnam and nearby districts in Andhra Pradesh. The coastal city of Visakhapatnam experienced tremors around 5.05 a.m. Tremors were also felt in areas like Gajuwaka, Mangalapalem, Sagar Nagar, and others.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) reported a 4.5 magnitude earthquake in the Bay of Bengal, leading to mild tremors in Visakhapatnam. The earthquake, occurring at 5:05:46 a.m. IST, had its epicenter about 225 km off the Kakinada coast.
No casualties, property damage, or losses were reported as a result of the earthquake. Reports indicated tremors were felt in Anakapalli, Vizianagaram, Kakinada, and Konaseema districts. Experts classified it as a shallow earthquake, reassuring the public that the mild tremors were due to structural adjustments in a tectonically stable region.
In a similar event last year, Visakhapatnam and Alluri Sitharamaraju districts experienced a mild earthquake. The earthquake, measuring 3.7 in magnitude, struck the Alluri district in north coastal Andhra, causing panic among residents. However, no casualties or damages were reported.
