A 45-year-old man tragically died by suicide at Uttam Nagar East Metro Station by jumping onto the train tracks. This incident marks the second suicide at the station in the past five days. Police received information about the incident at 10:12 am.
Upon reaching the scene, police discovered that the man had jumped onto the tracks from the platform. The deceased, identified as Maharaj Singh, hailed from Karoli district, Rajasthan. He worked as a whitewasher and was struggling with depression for years.
Maharaj Singh, who was undergoing treatment at RML Hospital for his depression, had come to Delhi to attend a family wedding. He leaves behind his wife, an 18-year-old daughter, and two sons aged 17 and 20. The body was taken to DDU Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC to investigate the circumstances of the incident. This unfortunate event follows another suicide at the same station just five days prior. A 17-year-old boy had also died after jumping in front of a train at Uttam Nagar East Metro station.
