Bhopal, Aug 11 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday reviewed the flood situation in the state from the State Disaster Management Situation Room and interacted with officials as well as people rescued from affected areas, amid continued rainfall and rising water levels in rivers and streams.

Yadav visited the Home Guards headquarters in Bhopal and reviewed the situation in different parts of the state through video conferencing. During the review, he was informed that 527 people had so far been rescued from flood‑affected areas.

The Chief Minister also spoke directly to some of the rescued people and enquired about their well‑being and the assistance being provided to them. He subsequently issued necessary directions to the field personnel engaged in relief and rescue operations.

Yadav said the state had received 15 per cent less rainfall than normal this year, but heavy rainfall in some areas had led to difficult situations requiring immediate relief and rescue measures.

“This year, the state has received 15 per cent less rainfall than normal. Wherever heavy rainfall has occurred, efforts are continuing to provide relief to people. I am pleased that rescue teams have so far saved 527 people,” Yadav told reporters.

He said seven Kanwariyas were rescued in Khandwa after the sudden rise in the water level of a river created a dangerous situation. Yadav added that rescue teams were working round the clock and that the government was closely monitoring the situation at the state level.

He urged people living along rivers and streams to remain particularly cautious during periods of heavy rainfall and to seek assistance from neighbouring districts if required.

“Those whose houses are located along rivers and streams should exercise special caution. If required, assistance should also be sought from neighbouring districts. We are monitoring the situation at the state level as well,” he said.

The Chief Minister said the state government was working at every level to ensure the safety and convenience of citizens. He also directed officials and field teams to continue relief and rescue operations and take immediate measures wherever the situation warranted.
