Around 80 individuals in Maharashtra’s Bhiwandi were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning after consuming street food from a local stall. The patients, who ate from a popular stall named ‘Famous Shawarma,’ experienced symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain after consuming shawarma and pizza on June 17. Despite medical treatment, their conditions did not improve, leading to admissions at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
Vinayak Gaikwad, Senior Police Inspector of Shanti Nagar police station, mentioned that the affected individuals sought treatment but did not show signs of recovery. Consequently, they were admitted to the hospital. An additional 24 patients were admitted later that night. Madhuri Panhare, Chief Medical Officer at IGM Hospital, confirmed that a total of 80 patients, including men, women, and eight children, were admitted with symptoms like stomach ache, vomiting, and diarrhea, possibly due to consuming food items like shawarma, pizza, and faluda from a specific shop in Bhiwandi.
Panhare stated that all patients received necessary medical care, including injections and IV drips, and were reported to be in stable condition without any critical cases. Samples from some patients were sent for lab testing.
