The government announced that the Aadhaar app has exceeded 31 million downloads within five months of its launch, showcasing widespread acceptance nationwide. Nearly 4 million individuals have updated their mobile numbers using the app, with approximately 850,000 users utilizing it for address updates, as per the IT Ministry. This surge in adoption signifies growing confidence among residents in accessing services conveniently through the app.
The Aadhaar app, available on Android and Apple iOS platforms, aims to enhance user convenience by offering services such as mobile number and address updates directly from smartphones. It serves as a user-friendly tool for Aadhaar Number Holders (ANH) to display, share, and authenticate their identity in a secure and private manner. Noteworthy features include biometric lock/unlock, face verification, authentication history, and a QR-based contact card for easy sharing.
Moreover, users can download e-Aadhaar, schedule appointments at Aadhaar Seva Kendras (ASKs), and engage in various activities like hotel check-ins through QR code scanning. The app supports real-life scenarios such as hospital admissions, visitor management, and identity verification for gig workers and service partners. The government’s initiative to onboard 100 entities as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) underscores the commitment to secure, consent-driven, and paperless identity verification using Aadhaar, without real-time access to central databases.
