Amid the controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh’s film ‘Satluj’, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab has refuted claims that the state government approved the premature release of convicts in the 1995 abduction and murder case of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. The party’s media in-charge, Baltej Pannu, clarified that the proposal for premature release was initiated during the Congress government’s tenure and has not been endorsed by the current Bhagwant Mann government.
Pannu highlighted that since the case was investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the process falls under the jurisdiction of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), with no pending proposals before either the Punjab government or the Governor. He also emphasized that Paramjit Kaur, Khalra’s wife, has exposed the failure of the Akali Dal in fulfilling its commitment to seeking justice for Khalra, accusing political rivals of spreading misinformation to divert public attention.
Regarding the recent film ‘Sutlej’, Pannu noted its swift removal from an OTT platform shortly after release, suggesting political interference. He mentioned that the film’s removal was followed by the dissemination of Paramjit Kaur’s statement through various social media channels, shedding light on past events and political promises made to Khalra’s family. Pannu criticized the Congress, BJP, and Akali Dal for their roles in the unfolding events, highlighting discrepancies in their actions and promises over the years.
