Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha recently stood with gig workers to celebrate a significant win regarding their safety and work conditions. Chadha expressed gratitude to the Central government for addressing the issue of rigid “10-minute delivery” commitments imposed by food delivery and quick-commerce platforms. He emphasized the dangers faced by delivery workers due to the unrealistic pressure of meeting the 10-minute deadline, highlighting the mental stress and risks involved.
Chadha acknowledged the efforts of gig workers in bringing about this positive change and thanked the government for intervening in the matter. He stressed the importance of prioritizing the safety and dignity of delivery workers over stringent delivery timeframes. The decision to eliminate the 10-minute delivery promise is seen as a crucial step towards improving the working conditions and well-being of gig workers, ensuring they are not exploited.
Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also played a role in urging major food delivery and quick-commerce platforms to remove strict delivery deadlines in favor of the safety of delivery partners. Following discussions with companies like Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy, and Zomato, the government’s intervention led to the removal of the 10-minute delivery claim from various brand platforms. The companies have committed to eliminating delivery-time commitments from their promotional materials to safeguard the welfare of delivery workers.
