The Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab criticized the Congress leadership for staying silent on shocking claims made by former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal. Bhattal alleged that she was advised to permit bomb blasts in the state to aid the Congress government’s return to power. AAP spokesperson Baltej Pannu expressed concern over the lack of response from Bhattal or senior Congress members even after more than 24 hours since the controversial statements emerged.
Pannu highlighted previous instances where similar revelations had surfaced, including claims by former CM Captain Amarinder Singh about uninvestigated incidents involving young men. He questioned why Amarinder Singh, despite his long tenures as Chief Minister, never pursued justice for those youths or their families. Pannu emphasized the seriousness of the claim that senior leaders proposed orchestrating bomb blasts for electoral gain, considering Punjab’s history of enduring violence and its lasting impact on society.
The AAP representative further called out state Congress leaders, such as Amarinder Singh Raja Warring and Partap Singh Bajwa, for their silence on the matter. Pannu demanded clarity from the Congress regarding the veracity of Bhattal’s statements and urged accountability for those who allegedly suggested using terror tactics for political advantage. He connected Bhattal’s allegations to the 2017 pre-election bomb blast, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in addressing such incidents to prevent manipulation of power.
Pannu drew a contrast between traditional parties like Congress and Akali Dal, accusing them of compromising Punjab’s interests for political expediency on various issues. He criticized these parties for suppressing truths and sacrificing the state’s rights, noting that their own leaders are now revealing this dark history.
