The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) clinched victories in the Abohar Municipal Corporation and the Morinda Municipal Council in Punjab. Despite the BJP and Congress alleging misuse of power, AAP secured all key positions in both civic bodies. In Abohar, Ganesh Kumar Sablaniya became Mayor with AAP winning with the support of 27 out of 50 councillors.
Similarly, in Morinda, Jagpal Singh Jolly was elected President with AAP dominating all top positions. Jagpal Singh Jolly refuted claims of coercion, stating that councillors supported AAP independently. He criticized former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for misleading statements and emphasized the importance of honest politics.
Channi condemned the incidents during the Morinda Municipal Council President election, labeling them as undemocratic and involving state power misuse. He highlighted the alleged assault on Congress councillors and criticized the police for inaction. BJP’s Amit Malviya raised concerns over the election process, questioning transparency and democratic norms.
