Abdullah Azam, the son of senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, has been granted relief in a significant development related to a two-passport case. A special MP/MLA court in Rampur has overturned his seven-year sentence imposed by a trial court in a fake passport case. Despite this decision, Abdullah Azam is not expected to be released due to other pending legal matters.
Abdullah Azam and his father, Azam Khan, a former minister in the Uttar Pradesh government, are currently incarcerated in a Rampur jail. Abdullah Azam faced scrutiny after allegedly using a fake Aadhar card, leading to his imprisonment last year.
According to Nasir Sultan, Abdullah Azam Khan’s legal counsel, the MP/MLA court nullified the lower court’s ruling and acquitted Abdullah of the charges. The case stems from a complaint filed on July 30, 2019, by MLA Akash Saxena, accusing Abdullah of obtaining two passport cards with differing birth dates and using them deceitfully.
The trial court’s initial verdict sentencing Abdullah to seven years in prison was challenged through a criminal appeal filed in the special MP/MLA court in Rampur. While Abdullah’s conviction was overturned by the higher court, his release remains uncertain due to unresolved legal issues, including a pending case related to a PAN card matter.
Abdullah Azam and Azam Khan continue to be detained in Rampur jail, awaiting further legal proceedings.
