Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee affirmed his determination to attend his scheduled events despite obstacles. This resolve followed the denial of clearance for his chopper to fly from Kolkata by the DGCA. With support from Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Banerjee arranged an alternative chopper to reach Rampurhat for his campaign rally.
Upon reaching Birbhum, Banerjee addressed the gathering in Rampurhat, expressing his commitment to his political engagements. Despite facing hurdles, including the lack of chopper clearance, he emphasized his unwavering dedication to his public appearances. Banerjee criticized the BJP for alleged conspiracies to impede his activities before the election dates were even announced.
The Trinamool Congress MP condemned the Election Commission’s actions in West Bengal, citing instances of harassment towards prominent individuals. Notably, he mentioned hearing notices sent to figures like Amartya Sen, Dev, and Mohammed Shami, labeling it as an attempt to sideline them. Banerjee accused the BJP, in collaboration with the Election Commission, of attempting to manipulate the voters’ list and suppress genuine voters.
Banerjee also visited Sunali Khatun at Rampurhat Medical College and Hospital, who recently gave birth to a baby boy. Khatun, previously deported to Bangladesh and later returned to India following a court order, requested Banerjee to name her child. In response, Banerjee named the baby ‘Apon,’ emphasizing the child’s belongingness to the community and criticizing the BJP’s treatment of Khatun as an outsider.
