Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Kolkata for more than 11 hours regarding the multi-crore cash-for-school-job case in West Bengal. Abhishek, who is also the nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, arrived at the ED office at 10:55 a.m. and left at 10:05 p.m. on the same day without responding to media queries.
Abhishek Banerjee’s name appeared in the charge sheets filed by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the ED in connection with the school-job case, although he was not named as an accused. The ED charge sheet mentioned Leaps & Bounds Private Limited, a company where Abhishek was previously the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CBI investigation into the Bengal school-job case was initiated by Abhijit Gangopadhyay, now a BJP Lok Sabha member, and the ED also joined the probe.
Following his ED interrogation, Abhishek will face questioning at the CID headquarters in South Kolkata for allegedly inciting violence and threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the state Assembly polls. Abhishek has expressed willingness to cooperate with investigative agencies in all cases, as per his statement.
