Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee, who faced an assault in Sonarpur, West Bengal, has been moved to a different hospital. Initially taken to a private hospital near Eastern Metropolitan Bypass, he was later shifted to another hospital in central Kolkata. His aunt, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, insisted on the transfer due to concerns about the quality of care.
Mamata Banerjee, accompanied by Abhishek’s mother, visited him at the first hospital but decided to relocate him within 30 minutes. She expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment provided, suggesting possible interference from higher authorities. Abhishek, wearing a patient’s apron, was wheeled out of the initial hospital to ensure his safety after facing protests and physical assault earlier in the day.
The incident occurred when Abhishek Banerjee visited Sonarpur to meet the family of deceased Trinamool Congress workers. He encountered protests, particularly from women, who accused him and threw eggs at him. Mamata Banerjee has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the state government for the lack of proper treatment and the alleged interference in the medical care provided to her nephew.
