Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee expressed his discontent with the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal through a poem. Titled ‘Ami Oswikar Kori’ (I refuse to accept), the poem highlights the impact of the SIR exercise on the people. Banerjee chose poetry as a medium to voice his opposition to the Election Commission’s actions.
In the poem, Banerjee condemns the oppression faced by the people, criticizing the rules enforced during the SIR process. He emphasizes the suffering caused by the exercise, with around 150 reported deaths since its initiation. Banerjee’s poem reflects the collective anguish and anger of the affected individuals.
Through his verses, Banerjee questions the legitimacy of the SIR method, pointing out the disregard for human lives in favor of statistics. He also draws parallels to history, emphasizing the importance of resistance and standing up against injustice. Banerjee’s poem adds to the dissent already expressed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through her 26 poems on the same issue.
