The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has urged a National Investigation Agency (NIA) inquiry into the killing of Indian medical student Savariya Basant in Uzbekistan. Basant, a student at Bukhara State Medical Institute, allegedly faced pressure to convert her religion and was reportedly murdered for resisting. ABVP emphasized the need for a thorough investigation encompassing potential organized crime, financial ties, and international links.
ABVP highlighted the significance of the case, stating it should not be viewed merely as a criminal matter. The organization emphasized the importance of identifying any organized networks and international connections involved. ABVP stressed the necessity of severe legal consequences for those responsible for the crime. The call for an NIA probe follows a resolution passed during ABVP’s National Executive Council meeting in Bhubaneswar.
The resolution adopted by ABVP focused on combating organized criminal activities and extremist ideologies behind women’s exploitation and religious conversions. ABVP’s demand for a robust legal framework to address crimes related to women’s exploitation, fraudulent religious conversions, and cyber threats was reiterated. ABVP also urged the Ministry of External Affairs to collaborate with Indian authorities in Uzbekistan for a prompt investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators.
