A video of activist Sonam Wangchuk confronting police at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi has gained widespread attention on social media. Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike in support of students protesting the NEET paper leak, was shifted to the hospital from Jantar Mantar due to health issues.
The viral video captures an emotional exchange between Wangchuk and a police officer on the day the Delhi High Court directed his transfer to a hospital of his choice. In the footage, Wangchuk is seen trying to leave the hospital, with the police officer seemingly preventing him from doing so, leading to a heated exchange.
Wangchuk is heard expressing his frustration, stating that he felt harassed despite his deteriorating health. He challenges the police officer, saying, “Ask them to arrest me. I am a free citizen,” as he continues to voice his objections and attempts to leave the premises.
Responding to the video, Safdarjung Hospital clarified that the incident occurred before they received the official court order for Wangchuk’s transfer. They explained that the video was recorded inside the hospital, where filming is prohibited, and was released by Wangchuk’s associates.
Hospital authorities mentioned that Wangchuk was transferred to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram immediately after they received the court’s written order. Wangchuk, who is currently receiving treatment at Medanta Hospital, defended his decision to end his hunger strike, emphasizing the sincerity of his protest in supporting students.
