Amid the ongoing political campaigning for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the divorce case involving actor-politician Vijay and his wife Sangeetha Vijay was scheduled for a hearing at a family welfare court in Chengalpattu on Monday. The proceedings have now been postponed to June 15. Earlier, the court had summoned Vijay to appear in person, but a fresh petition from both parties’ legal representatives led to the deferment.
Lawyers representing Vijay and Sangeetha informed the court that the couple had mutually agreed to separate, leading to an amicable understanding. Discussions have reportedly included aspects like alimony and asset division, with a focus on the well-being of their children. Financial details were not disclosed in court, indicating a consensual settlement approach.
The presiding judge acknowledged the joint submission, adjourning the case for further hearing in June. The delay was attributed to logistical issues, including Vijay’s election commitments and security concerns. This development occurs during Vijay’s active involvement in campaign activities ahead of the Assembly polls, drawing attention due to his dual role as a film star and political figure.
Legal experts anticipate a swift process towards an uncontested divorce based on mutual consent, provided both parties adhere to the agreed terms. The case is set to resume in mid-June, with expectations of a clearer settlement by then.
