Actress Sayani Gupta recently debuted as a director with her film “Aasmani” at the New York Indian Film Festival. This event brought back memories of her first visit to the festival over a decade ago, where she shared experiences with actress Kalki Koechlin. Sayani had attended the festival in 2014 as an actor when her movie “Margarita With A Straw” was showcased.
Recalling her past, Sayani shared on Instagram Stories about staying with Kalki during the festival 12 years ago, a memory she cherished. She expressed missing the camaraderie this time around. Sayani mentioned how Kalki had supported her during the festival tour of “Margarita,” calling her the best companion to start her acting journey with.
Reflecting on her initial festival experience with Kalki, Sayani expressed her nostalgia for sharing a room and the special bond they had. She noted the joy of companionship and assistance, especially with traditional attire like a saree. “Margarita with a Straw,” directed by Shonali Bose, focuses on a teenager with cerebral palsy (played by Kalki) navigating life in the US for her studies, exploring her relationship with a blind girl (played by Sayani).
Moving to “Aasmani,” featuring veteran actress Revathy, the film delves into the story of an elderly woman and her deep connection with a vintage powder-blue Fiat. Produced by Sayani Gupta Movies in collaboration with Sumitra Gupta Foundation for Arts and One India Stories, the drama promises a heartfelt narrative.
