Industrial conglomerate Adani Group’s resolution of legal issues in the United States is seen as a positive development by industry expert Dr. Kris Singh. Singh, the Founder and CEO of US-based energy technology company Holtec International, believes this settlement could pave the way for Adani Group to contribute to India’s nuclear energy sector. Describing Adani as a significant business entity in India, Singh expressed confidence in their potential to make substantial contributions to nuclear programs and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Singh emphasized the importance of nuclear energy in meeting India’s growing energy demands, stating that it is crucial for industrialization. While acknowledging India’s investments in solar energy, Singh cautioned that renewable sources alone may not provide a stable base-load electricity supply. He highlighted the reliability of nuclear power in providing consistent base load, especially in comparison to intermittent renewable sources like solar and wind energy.
Singh advocated for the development and widespread deployment of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in India to decentralize power generation. He suggested that locally deployed SMRs could reduce reliance on extensive transmission grids and costly high-voltage infrastructure. Singh also stressed the need for India to be more open to foreign investment in the nuclear sector to facilitate the entry of international players in building reactors in the country.
Holtec International, founded by Singh in 1986, is actively engaging with Indian officials through its operations in India. Singh mentioned ongoing discussions with the government and upcoming meetings with officials to further these collaborations. He emphasized the importance of embracing foreign investment to drive innovation and growth in India’s nuclear energy landscape.
