Adani Ports’ subsidiary, Astro Offshore, has collaborated with Oceaneering International Inc., a US-based engineering firm, to venture into ultra-deepwater and subsea operations. This move is a significant part of Adani Ports’ strategy for global offshore growth. The partnership aims to explore specialized offshore opportunities in Europe and enhance capabilities in complex subsea engineering projects like underwater construction and pipeline installation.
Astro Offshore’s recent induction of Astro Atlas, its first ultra-deepwater vessel, underscores its commitment to developing a modern fleet with advanced operational features. Adani Ports’ Whole-time Director and CEO, Ashwani Gupta, highlighted that this initiative aligns with the company’s goal of establishing a diversified marine platform on a global scale. By combining Astro Offshore’s expanding fleet with Oceaneering’s expertise in deepwater engineering and ROV, the partnership aims to bolster capabilities in intricate offshore operations, particularly in Europe.
Mark Humphreys, CEO of Astro Offshore, emphasized that the addition of Astro Atlas strengthens the company’s ultra-deepwater capabilities, enabling it to cater to a broader spectrum of offshore needs. The vessel, equipped with advanced subsea systems including a 150-tonne crane and accommodation for up to 100 personnel, can operate in water depths exceeding 3,000 meters. This collaboration is part of Adani Ports’ strategic plan to expand its marine business globally, targeting a 200-vessel fleet and significant marine revenue and capital expenditure by FY31.
