Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) announced securing a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina’s inaugural liquefied natural gas (LNG) export. This deal marks APSEZ’s entry into South America, expanding its global marine services presence and strengthening energy ties between India and Argentina. The contract was awarded to APSEZ’s subsidiary, The Adani Harbour International FZCO, in partnership with Argentina’s Meridian Group after a competitive tender by Southern Energy SA (SESA).
The Adani Group–Meridian consortium will provide marine services for the Southern Energy FLNG project, with an investment commitment of around $70 million. Initially, the project aims to produce 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually, positioning it as Argentina’s first operational LNG export venture. Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, highlighted the project’s significance in supporting large-scale energy infrastructure globally.
With operations in 12 countries and a diverse fleet of marine assets, APSEZ is set to deliver comprehensive marine services for LNG carriers, offshore logistics, and crew transfer services under the agreement. Argentina’s emergence as a key LNG supplier, with plans to export up to 10 million tonnes annually to India by 2027, underscores the strategic importance of the Southern Energy FLNG project in linking global LNG supply with demand centers.
The consortium’s scope includes deploying four high-specification tugboats, an anchor handling tug supply vessel, and a crew boat to support the Southern Energy FLNG project. This initiative is expected to facilitate the connection between Argentina’s expanding LNG supply base and the global market demand, enhancing energy trade corridors and ensuring long-term supply resilience.
