Afghan security forces in southern Helmand province conducted a three-month counter-terrorism operation, resulting in the seizure of numerous firearms and a large quantity of ammunition. The provincial counter-terrorism manager, Mawlawi Sayed Wali Saeed, announced the arrest of 26 individuals linked to the weapons haul. In a separate incident, a weapon cache was discovered in Baghlan province in northern Afghanistan on January 9.
Authorities emphasized the importance of preventing illegal possession of arms, highlighting efforts to maintain law and order in the region. In another operation in eastern Parwan province, police confiscated 21 firearms and detained 18 individuals on January 7. The Afghan government has committed to collecting arms and ammunition from individuals not affiliated with security organs.
In Uruzgan province, a significant weapons cache was found, leading to the arrest of three individuals. The cache included various types of ammunition, hand grenades, rocket shells, bullets, and other munitions. Investigations are ongoing to identify additional suspects connected to the illicit arms stash. Meanwhile, in Helmand province, police seized a cache of weapons and ammunition in Gereshk district, arresting one suspect and recovering a range of military equipment.
